1Magic lives on with Showmax sloppy seconds, The chaos continues and the plot sssickens… 1Magic has officially earned the name 1Not-So-Magic.
All evidence pointed to the channel’s closure on February 2, with inbox messages sent to subscribers, the influx of repeats from other channels and free-to-air timeslots, and 1802: Love Defies Time being the hardest hit.
The show went from three episodes a week to a double run Monday to Saturday and disappeared from Catch Up for a day. It then returned to its original Monday-Wednesday schedule and now the channel is home to Showmax’s poor seconds.
First with adult season 1, which started suddenly yesterday (January 30) after no-showing at Mzansi Magic last April.
It was scheduled to start at the time, but it didn’t happen and is now on 1Not-So-Magic, along with Showmax’s western-themed show starting this Monday, February 5 at 8pm, replacing The River which ends on Friday.
And all this without a word or explanation about what is happening from DStv. Registrants are left with whiplash, while chaos ensues behind the scenes because that must be what is happening.
We have never seen a station turn into such a disaster. Forever. Not even M-Net Edge can compete with this madness.
The fact that the introduction of this show coincides with the launch of the new Showmax suggests that 1Not-So-Magic could be a repeat channel for Showmax.
The only flaw in that theory: what’s the point of the new Showmax if Showmax shows are on a dedicated channel? Or it could be a way to market Showmax before the channel closes.
This may be why there has been confusion; perhaps there is a conflict about what to do behind the scenes.
