2023 KCSE Results Out Today Under New Grading System: The 2023 KCSE results are expected to be announced today, Monday, January 8, 2023, Moi Girls, Eldoret, by the Minister of Education, Ezekiel Machogu. The 903,260 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates who took the exams last December will finally know their results after about six weeks of waiting since they took the exam.
The 2023 KCSE results are important as they coincide with the introduction of a new grading system designed to increase university admissions. The revised model, launched in August, reduces the requirement for compulsory subjects from five to just two to determine a candidate’s final grade.
Under the new grading system, mathematics and any language among English, Kiswahili or the National Symbol Language will be compulsory subjects and therefore the main indicators of university admission.
The remaining five subjects with the highest marks will be used to determine the remaining grades. The changes aim to increase the enrollment rate of students in colleges and are part of the recommendations made by the President’s Task Force on Education Improvements.
Under the previous grading system, five compulsory subjects included (English, Mathematics, Kiswahili and two sciences) and two others.
This change is due to concerns that the previous system did not favor students whose best subjects were not in the compulsory group. “The current system is bad for some students,” Mr Machogu explained. “We do this to allow students to explore the subjects they are successful in.”
