Understanding Your Results

The KCPE exam is scored out of 500 points. The minimum score required to pass the exam is 250. Each subject is graded from A to E, with A being the highest grade and E being the lowest.

To determine a student’s overall grade, the marks for each subject are added and averaged. The average grade obtained is then converted to a letter grade using the following scale:

  • A: 80-100%
  • A-: 75-79%
  • B+: 70-74%
  • B: 60-69%
  • C+: 50-59%
  • C: 40-49%
  • D+: 30-39%
  • D: 20-29%
  • E: 0-19%

KCPE exam results are important because they affect students’ placement in different secondary schools based on their performance. High-achieving students have the opportunity to enter competitive and prestigious high schools, while those with low grades may have different placement options.

KCPE results not only affect individual students, but also provide important data to education authorities to assess the overall performance of the education system, identify areas for improvement, and make informed decisions regarding educational programs and policies.
