Mamelodi Sundowns have Agreed to Sign Matias Esquivel

Mamelodi Sundowns have Agreed to Sign Matias Esquivel: Mamelodi Sundowns have finalized an agreement to purchase midfielder Matias Esquivel from Club Atlético Lanus for a sum of 2.5 million dollars (46.7 million rands). The Argentine had already settled his personal terms last month, and the discussions between the two clubs focused on determining the transfer fees for this highly regarded talent.

The decision to sign with Mamelodi Sundowns caused a stir in Argentina, where it was anticipated that Esquivel would move to Europe following his impressive performances with Club Atlético Lanus, which helped them secure a fourth-place finish in the Primera Division, which consists of 28 teams.

The final terms of the transfer fees were agreed upon early last week between the two clubs. An official confirmation of the agreement is expected, and Esquivel is set to join Mamelodi Sundowns for pre-season training in conjunction with the Africa Cup of Nations.

This decision represents a significant milestone for Matias Esquivel, as Mamelodi Sundowns are securing the services of a talented midfielder, adding depth and skill to their team. The confirmation of the contract during the Africa Cup of Nations highlights the club’s strategic planning as it strengthens its squad for future challenges.

This is another big transfer for South America’s Sundowns, having captured Marcello Allende for Montevideo club City Torque in a $3 million deal in August 2022.

The Chile international became an instant hit with the Brazilians who are now on the verge of parting ways with Erwin Saavedra, while Divine Lunga was also signed as a South African and became a first-team member of Masandawana.

Lunga spent the last six months training with the team but was left unsigned as Sundowns had five opportunities to play abroad with Allende, Ribeiro Costa, Abdelmounaim Boutouil, Júnior Mendieta and Abubeker Nasir.

It remains to be seen who else will be sacrificed to bring in their new arrival Mendieta and Nasir who is yet to feature in Rulani Mokwena’s first XI due to injuries.
