NECTA News 2024 | View all news NECTA Home: After mainland Tanzania withdrew from the East African Examinations Council in 1971 and before NECTA was established by law in 1973, the Curriculum and Examinations Section of the Ministry of Education was responsible for all examinations. With the establishment of NECTA, examinations became its responsibility according to law.
The curriculum remained under the Ministry of Education and the University of Dar es Salaam until it was taken over by the new Institute of Curriculum Development (ICD) established in 1975, renamed in 1993 the Institute of Tanzania. Education (TIE).
Between 1972 and 1976, the first employees of NECTA were hired, among whom Mr. P. P. Gandye, hired in 1972 and then in 1994, was appointed executive secretary. Other employees continued to be employed, particularly when NECTA buildings were moved from the Ministry of Education headquarters to the current location at Kijitonyama, near Mwenge. Currently, the number of NECTA employees stands at over 340.
