Osimhen Rescues a point for Super Eagles against E-Guinea: The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Group A match between Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria ended in a 1-1 draw at the Ebimpe Stadium in the Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium on Sunday.
Ivan Salvador scored for Equatorial Guinea in the 36th minute to give them a surprise lead, but Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen equalized with a hard header into the net.
Despite Nigeria’s efforts, including Moses Simon’s powerful free-kick just before half-time, neither team could break the deadlock in the second half.
Looking ahead, Nigeria will face tournament hosts Cote d’Ivoire in a highly anticipated clash, while Equatorial Guinea, fed up with a point from the draw, will face Guinea-Bissau in their next match come. Ivory Coast currently leads Group A, with Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria one point ahead of Guinea-Bissau in the standings.
Up next for Nigeria is a clash that all of Africa will be waiting for with bated breath as they take on tournament hosts, Cote d’Ivoire who opened their campaign with a clinical 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau on Saturday evening.
Equatorial Guinea on the other hand will be encouraged by the point when they face a wounded Guinea-Bissau. The results sees Group A being led by Cote d’Ivoire while Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria are a point above Guinea-Bissau.
