Private Schools Announce IEB Matric Results for 2023: Today, the IEB (Independent Examinations Board) released the results of the 2023 matric examinations, revealing an impressive pass rate of nearly 99 percent. Private Schools Announce IEB Matric Results for 2023
It is officially back to school time in South Africa, and to welcome the new academic year, all the country’s examination councils are releasing the results of the 2023 matric examinations.
Although the Department of Basic Education will only announce the results on Thursday evening, other bodies such as the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) and the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI) have announced their own results.
IEB 2023 Matric exam results
Breast students who wrote for the IEB in the 2023 national higher certificate examinations achieved an overall pass rate of 98.46 percent, according to the board. According to Umalusi, 15 211 graduates took the IEB exams last year, so that would mean that about 234 students failed.
The IEB provides examinations outside the scope of the government, due to their independent nature. More than half (135) of the 248 schools registered with the IEB, mostly private schools, are located in Gauteng, according to Business Day.

SACAI publishes the pass rate for its own exams
The online and distance learning assessment board SACAI has also released its matric exam results on Thursday. According to the institute, the 2023 end-of-year exams were the first for the evaluation council, and it supervised the matric exams of 5,826 candidates who took place in October and December last year.
Students who took the SACAI exams had an overall success rate of 72 percent, or about 1,631 students failed. Despite this, SACAI says it is pleased with the results.
“SACAI is proud of its matric class of 2023. We have managed to maintain a pass rate of 72%. Despite the increase in the number of candidates who wrote with us, we fell short of the increase of one thousand candidates who wrote the SACAI exams,” explained Keith Maseko, Executive Director of SACAI.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will announce the pass rate for the 2023 matric (higher national certificate) exams at 18:00 on Thursday. From 19 January, students will be able to access their results transcripts online individually.
The government will want to improve the 80.1 percent pass rate for the matriculation class of 2022 as proof of their recommendations that primary education has been improving rapidly in South Africa.
