SACAI Administered 2023 Matric Exams: Candidates Attain 72% Pass Rate, Matric candidates who wrote their 2023 examinations, administered by the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI), achieved a pass rate of 72%.
The 2023 exams were SACAI’s first as a fully accredited private assessment body and had about 5,826 candidates take the exams between October and December last year. The institute caters mostly to candidates studying online and through distance education.
Following the outbreak of COVID-19 in South Africa in 2020, many people considered online learning as an option after schools were closed due to the government shutdown. SACAI Chief Executive Officer Keith Maseko says they are proud of their success.
Maseko says, “SACAI is proud of its matric class of 2023. We have managed to maintain a pass rate of 72%. Despite the increase in the number of candidates who wrote with us, we fell short of the increase of one thousand candidates who wrote the SACAI exams.”
Minister Motshekga set to release highly anticipated Matric results
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will release the long-awaited Class of 2023 results in the city of Randburg, north of Johannesburg.
The results will show if the Class of 2023 has improved on the 80.1% pass rate of the Class of 2022, who had to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, the province with the highest matric pass rate was the Free State at 88.5%, followed by Gauteng at 84.4%.
The minister says all systems go. “For me, when I stayed, after getting the initial results, they are still being reviewed. The system is stable because, for me, the biggest fear is when you have a system that today is 30, tomorrow 50; 100.”
“So it shows that something is wrong. When the system is stable, we have the ability to see where the weaknesses are and the things we need to strengthen,” adds the Minister.
