Thamani ya Kombe la AFCON 2023: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a massive 40% increase in Prize Money for the winner of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Côte d’Ivoire 2023. The CAN team that won the TotalEnergies Côte d’Ivoire 2023 will now receive 7,000,000 USD.
In addition, the runner-up of CAN TotalEnergies Côte d’Ivoire 2023 will receive USD 4,000,000. The two semi-finalists will each receive USD 2,500,000 and the four quarter-finalists will receive USD 1,300,000 each.
Dr. Patrice Motsepe, CAF President, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in the last two years in increasing the prize money for AFCON and other major tournaments. The substantial increase in prize money for the AFCON winner, to $7,000,000, represents a 40% increase over the prize money of the previous AFCON.
Dr. Motsepe is confident that part of the prize money will contribute to the development of football, benefit all football stakeholders and support member associations in their administrative efforts. The move aims to improve the general condition of African football.
