If you wrote your matric in more than one examination session and you wish to combine your credits to qualify for a National Senior Certificate (NSC), you must apply for a combination of the result to obtain a matric certificate. The Department does not automatically combine your credits.
- Combination only applies if it improves the candidate’s qualification status (e.g., from Higher Certificate to Diploma).

How to Apply for the Combination Matric Results?
- You can apply at the Gauteng Department of Education head office or your nearest District with the following documents:
- A certified copy of a previous matric result statements
- A certified copy of Identity document (ID)
- The application combination form obtainable at Head office and District offices
- You can apply online for the service:
- First register as users on the e-Government Portal www.eservices.gov.za
Important notes:
- Candidates who wrote supplementary exams automatically have their results combined.
- If the combination doesn’t change the qualification status, separate certificates will be issued for each exam sitting.

General requirements:
- Pass at least five subjects to qualify for a combined certificate.
- Only passed subjects will be considered for combination.
- Maximum of one failed subject allowed.
Specific subject considerations:
- Higher Grade subjects:
- Conversion from F to E allowed for one subject.
- Conversion from FF or G allowed only if needed for the sixth subject (minimum requirement).
- For subjects converted from Higher to Standard Grade, the original mark will be used.
