Submitting the correct documentation is critical to a successful application.

The application period for National Student Financial Aid Fund (NSFAS) funding for the academic year 2023 is open. Students from all over the country who intend to study at a public higher education institution in South Africa can apply for funding.

Successful applicants for Nsfas scholarships will have their tuition fees and accommodation paid. They will also receive travel, stationery and subsistence allowances from Nsfas.

To be eligible for Nsfas scholarships, students must come from a home where the household income does not exceed R350,000 per annum. Students with disabilities can have a household income of no more than R600,000.

The Nsfas system may ask you to submit supporting documents if the information you have provided does not match the information of third parties. This is because Nsfas checks all the information you provide to ensure that you are eligible for funding.

  • ID copies of parents, guardian or spouse (or death certificate where applicable).
  • Marriage certificate (where applicable).
  • Your proof of income or 1 year’s IRP5 (if applicable).
  • Your parents, guardian or spouse’s proof of income (if you are a Sassa grant recipient, no proof of income is required)
  • Applicants with a disability must submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form
