Morocco to Star in Netflix docuseries on World Cup 2022: Netflix has been filming a behind-the-scenes documentary at the World Cup that is set to star Morocco captain Romain Saiss.
The breathtaking football series is being developed by Sunderland developers ‘Till I Die’ and is set to release next year. According to the Telegraph, “Captains” will feature films of captains such as Saiss, Gareth Bale and Thiago Silva during the World Cup.
Filming Saiss and Morocco on location during their incredible run to the final four in Qatar gave the producers a compelling story. Saiss is doubtful for Wednesday’s semi-final against France after coming off a stretcher against Portugal.
England captain Harry Kane will not take part in the film after he and Gareth Southgate rejected the idea of secret filming in the England camp. Southgate said before the tournament: “It’s not my cup of tea. I’d be surprised if the group of players we have were interested in it.”
During the show, Netflix cameras closely followed the teams, including the Moroccan selection and captain Romain Saiss, one of the stars, alongside Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Thiago Silva.

With full access from the locker rooms to the pitch, Netflix teams were able to follow the Atlas Lions everywhere, according to The Telegraph, which first reported the news in 2022.
“The media coverage of Saiss, doubtful for the match against France after being injured against Portugal, should be the most interesting story,” reports the British daily.
Except for the release date of the first episode, Netflix has not yet disclosed any other information. “World Cup Captains” will be available on the streaming platform from December 30.
Saiss, 33, was a standout player and captain as Morocco’s Atlas Lions defied the odds to become the first Afro-Arab team at last year’s international tournament.
