Lampard has handed over the reins of Chelsea’s ‘disasters’ to Pochettino.
Frank Lampard, having concluded his tenure at Chelsea, has provided a comprehensive rundown of the hurdles awaiting Mauricio Pochettino when he assumes his role next season.
During Lampard’s reign, the team finished the Premier League season in a disappointing 12th position, marking one of their worst performances to date.
The season came to a lackluster close for the west London club with a 1-1 draw against Newcastle, accentuating the underwhelming nature of their campaign, despite the significant investment in transfers during the preceding two windows.
Regrettably, Lampard struggled to guide Chelsea to success, managing just one victory out of eleven matches.
As the handover approaches, Lampard has outlined an extensive array of challenges that his successor will face, candidly acknowledging the club’s subpar performance in the previous season.
Pochettino has already penned his contract to lead Chelsea and is anticipated to be officially introduced as the head coach within the coming days.
Lampard emphasizes that the players who remain at the club must elevate their performance levels to contribute to the team’s resurgence.
“I am a big fan of Pochettino as a manager, I think he is a very good manager,” said Lampard.
“Pochettino’s history shows that he has worked in high-level clubs,” said Lampard.
Despite signing 19k players for £600m, Chelsea still failed to do well in the league. This has resulted in big name players being left out of matchday squads or feeling left out, affecting team morale. Decreasing the squad, improving the fitness of the remaining players and building them up, winning every match will be the important goals for Pochettino, says Lampard.
“When you have a bad season like the one we had, obviously there are many things to improve,” he said.
