Sundowns Confirm the Signing of Tashreeq Matthews – IK Sirius have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Mamelodi Sundowns for the transfer of one of the South African stars, Tashreeq Matthews.
The 23-year-old former Ajax Cape Town player has been in excellent form over the last year in Scandinavia. He helped Sirius fight relegation in 2023, and his contribution of 10 goals and nine assists was instrumental in the Swedish club’s late comeback.
He has now completed his return to South Africa, and his Swedish club announced the deal on Friday night.
โSirius Football has agreed with the South African club Mamelodi Sundowns FC on the transfer of Tashreeq Matthews,โ the club stated.
Matthews only joined Sirius in 2022, previously with Varberg, also in Sweden’s Allsvenkan, where he played with South African teammates such as Luke Le Roux and Keanan Ayer, among others.

The Hanover Park-born midfielder, who is as good as a winger ten, left South Africa in 2018 to join Borussia Dortmund. due to registration problems, his stay in Germany was short and he was loaned out to Dutch and Swedish clubs.
However, it was in Varberg where Matthews began to make a splash, leading to his move to Sirius.
Although there have been reports of interest from Europe, Sundowns’ offer was the most interesting. Now, it remains to be seen if Sundowns can also secure the transfer of Orlando Pirates winger Thembinkosi Lorch.
